Unal Boyaci, in other words Captain Unal comes from a
family who shares a great passion for sea for over five
generations. He was born in 1937, as the son of Ahmet
Boyaci from Kos. In 1945, when Unal turned 8, he joined
his father and started an adventurous life at sea. Who
would know that this adventure would last for over 60
years? Even today it still continues...
Well, Captain Unal is still at sea. He never left “the
great blue” and devoted his whole life to it as the sea
has pervaded him. Let’s take a brief look into his
story...
As we all know, the times when Captain Unal was a
child, were quite different from nowadays. Then, Bodrum
was a little town by the seaside, the name of which was
only known by its residents. The native people were
making their living by sponge diving and fishery which
were the primary sources for economical and social
development of this little seaside village.
Captain Unal had also chosen sponge diving to earn his
living and together with his father they did this job
from 1949 till 1969. They searched every inch of the sea
ground in the Aegean and Mediterranean bays, from Foca
to Mersin. In wintertime, they were trawling and earning
their living through fishery.
After the death of his father, Captain Unal took over
his heritage and enthusiastically continued the life at
sea. After all, being a seaman was his valuable heritage
to carry over to the next generation and this is why
Captain Unal raised his son as a seaman too, just like
his father did to him.
After 1970, “tourism” would turn the little fisher
town into today’s Bodrum, as we know it. In 1974 Captain
Unal and his son, who was then 10 years old, started to
work in the tourism sector. From that day onwards,
domestic and international tourists enjoy the endless
pleasures of going on a yacht trip with them, in a warm
family atmosphere, to enjoy the glamour of “Blue
Voyage”. |
